Your journey at a glance

About this safari

This route is designed for travellers who want Uganda’s two signature primate encounters alongside a taste of classic savannah wildlife.

Begin in the forests of Kibale, continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives and a boat safari, then reach Bwindi for a mountain-gorilla trek. It is an active itinerary with several road transfers, balanced by time at each main destination.

Primate permits are subject to availability and current authority rules. Game drives and boat departures can be affected by weather and park operations. The itinerary may be adjusted to match confirmed permits and your travel dates.

The route

Your day-by-day itinerary

This is a suggested route. We confirm the final order, lodges, permits and timings around your travel dates.

  1. DAY1

    Entebbe

    Arrival in Entebbe

Meet your driver at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Rest after your flight; a safari briefing and any light local activity can be arranged if arrival time and energy allow.

  2. DAY2

Entebbe · Fort Portal · Kibale

    Drive to Kibale Forest

Travel west through Uganda’s countryside towards Fort Portal and Kibale. Stop for lunch and scenic viewpoints along the way, then settle into your lodge near the forest.

  3. DAY3

    Kibale Forest · Bigodi Wetland

    Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi

Join the morning briefing and guided chimpanzee-tracking walk in Kibale Forest. In the afternoon, consider a guided walk in Bigodi Wetland, known for its community conservation work, birds and other wildlife.

  4. DAY4

Kibale · Queen Elizabeth National Park

    Transfer to Queen Elizabeth

Drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After check-in and lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive if timing and conditions permit, scanning the plains for elephants, buffaloes, antelope and predators.

  5. DAY5

    Queen Elizabeth National Park

Game viewing and the Kazinga Channel

Set out for a morning game drive, followed by an afternoon boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. The waterway is known for hippos, crocodiles, elephants at the shore and a wide range of waterbirds.

  6. DAY6

Queen Elizabeth · Ishasha · Bwindi

    Through Ishasha to Bwindi

Travel towards Bwindi through the Ishasha sector. Where time and road conditions allow, enjoy a game-viewing drive in search of the area’s famous tree-climbing lions before continuing to your forest lodge. Sightings are not guaranteed.

  7. DAY7

    Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

    Mountain-gorilla trekking

After the park briefing, trek with authorised guides and trackers in search of a habituated mountain-gorilla family. The hike can be demanding and varies in length. Return to the lodge for a well-earned rest.

  8. DAY8

    Bwindi · Entebbe

    Return to Entebbe

Begin the drive back to Entebbe after breakfast. As this is a long transfer, we will check your onward flight time carefully and may recommend an additional night or a domestic flight option.
